I think about how far we are from New York, how unfamiliar I remain with my own country, and how this must be what people in New York picture when I tell them where I live.
When I meet people who are unfamiliar with Midland, Texas, there are three things I mention: Oil & Gas, Friday Night Lights and Trevor Stoltz.
The irony is not lost on me that between New York and Midland, this is the one known as the ‘Tall City.’
There are two things as a New Yorker you don’t have to justify to other New Yorkers - what you’re doing there and why you don’t have a car.
